If you’re looking for some quick and easy party favors that’ll give your party another touch of uniqueness,  consider a throw back to do-it-yourself recuerdos-but  with a modern twist of course. For the romantic  quinceañera, the aromatherapy-loving gal or the chef  quince girl, here are three party favor ideas that will  surely make your quince, and your personality, shine through. Take a look.

Votive candles
You could never go wrong with votive candles, especially since they come in handy during dreadful power outages, romantic dinners or to give a room that warm feeling. To give this simple candle a transformation, consider dressing or packaging it in a special way. Tulle, a clear box or a simple ribbon can be all you need to dress the candle of your choice. If you choose tulle, you can simply wrap the candle in it and tie it with a lace ribbon. You can also add a gift tag-type note, make a hole in it, and then run the lace through it to attach it to the favor. The note can read a simple “Thank you”, or can have a religious message or any message of your liking.

If you choose to go the clear box path, you can hot glue the candle inside the box to keep it from moving around. You can also get creative and add sand for a beach themed quince, for example.

Potpourri sashes
Potpourri sashes are a girl’s bff when it comes to making things smell flower pretty. In your dresser drawers, in your car, your purse or book bag, potpourri sashes can keep all of those areas smelling Springy all year long. To pull off this wonderful party favor, purchase a bulk bag of potpourri (scent of your choice) and numerous sashes (color and fabric of your choice as well). Using a measuring cup or spoon, begin to pour the potpourri into the sashes and when done simply pull the string to bring the bag to a close. As with the votive candles, you can also add a personalized ribbon and note to the potpourri sash as well.

Jars of Love
If you’re a quinceañera who knows her way around a kitchen, perhaps you may want to share that skill with all of your quince guests. Jars of homemade jam, for example, are one way to show your creative and skillful personality. Purchase empty jars in bulk and then batch up a recipe for homemade jam. Once you’ve got your recipe down to the pinch, jam away and make as much jam as you can possibly make. When finished, fill your empty jars with the jam and close the lid tightly. You can also add the noted thank you card and personalized ribbon by simply tying them around the lid. To perfectly portray Hepburn’s character Miss Holly Golightly all you need is a slim-fitting long black dress, a pair of fancy black gloves, pearls in excess and a tiara. Create a beehive with your hair and if you have short hair just add volume to the top of your head.

Halloween Costume #2

For the adventurous Quince girl there is the brave: Katniss Everdeen. All you need for this is a black or brown leather jacket, biker boots, cargo pants which most likely you already own and of course an orange backpack. You can borrow the bow and arrows from your little brother or stop by a thrift shop; they usually sell these kinds of toys for less than at retail stores. Wear your hair in a ponytail and you’re set!

Halloween costume #3

For the blogging Quinceañera there is Jenna Hamilton from Awkward. Do you already sport bangs and a side-braided ponytail? Done!  Jenna’s style is not that hard, she can rock polka-dot t-shirts, plaid t-shirts, green cardigans and cute little dresses just fine. Make sure to carry a red bag with school supplies. If you’re looking for a group costume to rock with your friends how about dressing up as Pretty Little Liars? Just make sure to decide altogether on the color you’ll be wearing as it can be black little dresses, vivid red coats or prom dresses. These costumes might be a bit tricky as you will have to remain close to one another for people to ‘get’ your costume. Our advice: opt for black, time to bring your A game!

Now if glamour is your thing, you can ask to borrow grandma’s flapper dress and portray Daisy Buchanan from The Great Gatsby. The best would be to use real vintage hats and jewelry. The Mexican hair and makeup expert is known for his coloring and styling techniques as well as for his work on Project Runway, America’s Next Top Model, and various other television programs. Now, Tony Y Not turns his hot curler into a magic wand to give you a step-by-step guide for landing the perfect DIY Quinceanera hairstyles.

1.) Braid It Low
A thick braid worn low and over one shoulder is great for a Quince girl. First, make sure your strands have some volume and aren’t too silky straight. A few twists with a curling iron will do the trick. Next, pull all of your hair over one shoulder and then grabbing thick sections weave into a plait. Finish by roughing it up with both hands. This isn’t a braid that should look too perfect.

2.) Ballerina Buns Are All The Rage
Pull all your hair up as if making a ponytail. Holding the pony with one hand, use your free hand to twist your hair around and tuck it under. Secure with bobby pins. Set it with hairspray and go!

Flowing tresses are great for Quinceañeras.

3.) Flowing Tresses
To create perfectly bouncy loose waves, first set hair in hot rollers. Next, brush out curls with a natural bristle brush and mist with a workable holding hairspray. An option to finish the look: make a deep side part, put one side behind the ear and sweep the curls over to the side, letting them cascade over the shoulder or simply have a middle part and let them fall naturally.

4.) Sleek and Sweet Pony’s
Roll your hair entirely in velcro rollers and set with hairspray. Set for 15 to 20 minutes. Remove the rollers and tease your crown. Smooth the teased part back with a fine-tooth comb leaving your hair slightly big on top. Next, pull hair half back and secure with a clip, then pull all leftover hair into a ponytail, secure with an elastic band and you’re done.

1. Be prepared. Decide who is toasting and in which order. Keep the toast giving open to only the most important people in the reception, such as your parents, padrinos, and you, of course.

2. Write your own speech. It’ s ok to get inspired by someone else’s writing, but a message from the heart will be more effective.

3. Keep it short and sweet. A three-minute time frame is just enough to deliver a clear, thoughtful message that won’t have your guests wondering “is it over yet?”.

4. Always classy. As funny as any embarrassing moments in your life may be within your circle of friends, you don’t want a room full of people knowing your personal business during your Quinceanera toast.

5. Say “Thank you!”. This is the time to show your appreciation to all the individuals involved in the planning of your Quince. After all, a Quinceañera is a privilege and you’re one lucky girl to have such a special event in your honor.

6. Practice. Days before the party, each of the speakers should practice what they will say. Feel free to revise their speech to avoid tip #4.

7. Fight your fear. Many people are scared of public speaking. Avoid a nervous breakdown mid-way your toast by finding three focal points in the room and switch your eyesight to each of them, one at a time. This will give the illusion of you speaking to the entire room.

8. Sip, don’t chug. Toasts are meant to be elegant. When it comes time to drinking your cider, sip it slowly. This is no time for a who-can-finish-faster contest.

9. Speak their language. If you are fluent in more than one language, say parts of your speech in all the languages you know. This will allow you to connect with all your guests, regardless of language.

10. Enjoy the moment. The toast will be over faster than you image. Take advantage of the room full of the people that love you and cherish the moment forever.
