“A Glass Slipper by Duchess Designs” creates bejeweled slippers so that every girl may her Cinderella moment.
Pop star Rihanna got it right with her love anthem “Diamonds”. Because, let’s face it, what girl doesn’t want to shine “like diamonds in the sky”? Enter Jennie Lee, founder of “A Glass Slipper by Duchess Productions”. Jennie’s intricate eye allows her to create unique, custom rhinestone shoes for each of her clients.
Using only Swarovski rhinestones, which are considered top of the line as far as design crystals are concerned, the artist takes her customer’s own pair of shoes and bedazzles them to their heart’s content.
Her vision of sparkling shoes with fabulous crystals came after a trip to a major department store, which the designer made in hopes of finding a special pair of shoes for a very special event. “It was my husbands 40th birthday so I wanted to wear a shoe to go with the occasion.” At the store, Jennie found herself face to face with an alluring Christian Louboutin slipper. Everything, except the price, was perfect about it. “I looked at the $4,000 price tag and just knew there was no way I could send that much money on a pair of heels!”
So…proving that out of need comes great innovation, Jennie went home and got to work on what would be her first custom made bejeweled slippers. That was 10 years ago. Since then, she’s honed the skill of the art and has serviced various brides, birthday girls, and women wanting to step out into the world in a pair of shoes that dazzle.
Here, Jennie explains why her creations are so unique and shares tips on how to get the most our of your bejeweled Quinceanera shoes.

What’s one of the most unique designs you’ve done?
A pair of shoes commissioned by a USC graduate. The client wanted something to commemorate the event but didn’t want anything over the top. We ended up recreating the USC log on the bottom of her shoes, which gave them a very personal and unique look.
What are some of the most popular requests you’re receiving?
As far as colors, nude, champagne, and blush are in high demand right now. Ballet flats and heels are always popular. As far as design, it varies. Customers are requesting fully covered shoes as well as some with only details of bling, such as a covered rose on the toe of a shoe.
Why do you only work with Swarovski crystals?
Because they last a long time and they’re the best way to get your money’s worth. I used them on the shoes I did for my husband’s birthday and to this day I literally wear the shoes everywhere.
Why do you prefer for the client provide their own shoes?
That’s where the Cinderella effect comes into play. I find that it works best for them to personally choose a pair that fits them comfortably and perfectly, and no one better than them can determine that.

Are there specific styles of shoes that work better than others?
A good leather shoe works best. Satin is also great. Patent leather is difficult to work with because it has to be painted first in order to adhere the stones to it. Suede is also very difficult because it doesn’t give enough time to properly place each individual stone.
Does the brand of the shoe matter much?
Not necessarily, so long as the quality of the shoe is good. A nice, solid leather shoe is the best base. Ideally, it should be a pair good enough to last at least 10 years because if a client is investing hundreds of dollars in having rhinestones added to it, they should be able to wear them for as long as they can. Poorly made shoes can affect the longevity of the final bejeweled product.
What are your price points?
Each commission is priced depending on how much coverage the client desires. Something like the USC logo and a Disney-inspired Converse that I worked on are around $50, for example. But a price structure for heels is $250, sandals are about $200+ (depending on style), mules run for $450, bejeweled flats can be anywhere between $600-700, sling backs and wedges about $800, and pumps about $975. The most expensive are 1.5″ platform pumps, which cost about $1250, and booties, which start at $1800. But again, it all depends on the amount of work and crystals required.
What makes this option so desireable?
For a young Quinceanera it’s definitely the “center of attention” factor. Plus, it enhances her look, makes her feel like the princess she is, and gives her a personal keepsake with which to remember the important event for years to come.
